General Purposes and MissionThunderbird Early College Charter School, Inc. is organized to establish, develop, and oversee a Grade 5-12 public early college charter school aligned with State of Alaska Performance and Content Standards and GLEs and in compliance with a five year contract with Matanuska Susitna Borough School District, hereinafter MSBSD, School Board.
(a) The general purpose and mission of the Thunderbird Early College Charter School, Inc. Academic Policy Committee Board of Directors, APC Parent & Teacher Sub Committees and APC General Assembly is to set goals and policy related to the instructional programs, textbooks, curriculum, schedules and teaching strategies of the school; while overseeing the school?s ongoing development and implementation of its charter.
(b) Academic policies will be recommended and adopted through written Resolutions debated within an APC structure including APC Parent and Teacher Sub Committees. Each of the four APC Parent and Teacher Sub Committees, representing each of the grade level programs 5-6th, 7-8th, 9-10th and 11-12th shall meet quarterly. Resolutions from these sessions shall be debated and voted on in APC Board of Directors Meeting and/or APC General Assembly Meetings.
(c) Charter Bylaws include provisions for setting measurable goals and evaluating the school?s progress on these goals. An example of a measurable goal set for the school is that for each student tested on state mandated SBAs , the student?s achievement levels will increase by at least 2% in Reading, Writing and Mathematics, except for students with IEP that do not have this 2% increase specifically stated.
(d) The school will operate in compliance with all federal, state and local laws and regulations for assessing students achievement levels. TECC is subject to secondary school competency testing as provided in
AS 14.03.075 and other competency tests required by the department.
(e) The implementation of a comprehensive quarterly curriculum review cycle will be developed and shall meet in public in APC Board of Directors, APC Parent & Teacher Sub Committees and/or in APC General Assembly Meetings.
